I am a Vietnamese-American. My favorite thing
is to go where I have never gone. Books have taken
me to a far away place, a journey into my lifelong
dream- a dream that brought me to America years ago
as a foreign student.
As a
recipient of the Fulbright national grants, I
traveled to Europe and Asia. Of journeying the
benefits are many: the freshness it brings to the
heart, the seeing and hearing of marvelous things,
the delight of beholding new cities, the meeting of
unknown friends, the learning of high manners, and
the making of positive connections.
The world
is a global village. It is important to help
students learn about and value the diversity in the
world around them. I want to instill in my students
a dream of their own and provide them relevant
learning experience outside the boundary of the
classroom walls.
Thomas
Carlyle, the eminent eighteenth century English
author and philosopher stated, The true
university is a collection of books. Think of
it:--the true school is a library! Carlyle showed
me the way: my career choice has been to intertwine
my dual skills of teacher and librarian, in an
effort to imbue the students whom I touched with a
dual love- books and self-learning.
I believe
that each year that I both teach and act as a
school librarian, that my skills in accomplishing
this dual objective is enhanced: my students are
touched to a greater degree.

In
1985, I became a certified Medical
Assistant. I have worked in several
doctors' offices and hospitals. It was my
strong love for people and helping people
that made me decide to choose this
field.
I
later began a new career, motherhood. I
chose to be a stay at home mom for several
years and have reaped wonderful rewards as
a result.
In
1994 I received business and clerical
training and once again joined the work
force. My clerical training allowed me to
experiment in several fields. I worked
corporate for 5 years before deciding that
my desire to help people was not
satisfied.
In
2002 I began my position at Reagan High
School. I love being the Library
Assistant. I have a great relationship
with the faculty and welcome the
opportunity to assist whenever assistance
is needed.
The
students are always a treat. So many
personalities, so many faces. Everyday
brings a new opportunity to help someone.
I
also assist Reagan alumni with yearbooks
and memorabilia from the past. They have
really interesting and fun stories to
tell.
I
try to bring new meaning to the saying
"Service with a smile". I truly believe
that through caring and helping, I can
make a positive difference in someone's
day or maybe even
someone's
life.
