Library
You
have arrived at the intellectual heart of our
school, a state-of-the-arts library. Enter the
doors of the Bulldog Library and you find a very
friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere that
is conducive to reading and research. Our
Library/Media Specialist, Mrs. Volz, and our
Library Clerk, Mrs. Levene are always happy to
assist you in any way they can.

The
library houses -- HP workstations, a teaching
computer, LCD projector, a scanner and some
laser printers. All computers offer high speed
Internet access. The library website,

offers easy access to the Library Catalog,
Online databases and other Internet resources
for students, teachers, parents and
librarians.
Library Hours
The
library is open from 7:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
Mon-Thurs. and to 3:45 on Friday. Students are
welcome throughout the day.
Library
Rules
1.
Students may come at any time in the period with
a Library Permit signed & completed by
their teachers noting library related assignment
to be done. Students must sign in when they
arrive.
2.
No food and drinks

Stay on task
4.
Computers are for school related work
only.
5.
Students with overdue books can't check out more
books and can't use the computer at all times
for any purpose.
Consequences
1.
Violators will be sent back to
class
2.
Library privileges may be revoked
Using the Library
1.
Schedule class for the library:
·
Schedule, at least a day in advance. Teachers
can access Outlook Library Calendar for
availablity, then email the librarian or let her
know personally.
·
The librarian will be happy to collaborate with
teachers on any assignments in the
library.
·
Teachers
must stay with class in the library at all
time.
3.
Student
Pass:
·
A pass during schools hours must have a specific
assignment such as, "Artist research", not
"Research"; World War II, not History;
especially not "Computer". It would be helpful
to the librarian to monitor, help and keep
students on task.
Students
should be encouraged to use books first before
using the Internet.
·
A library pass, not any other kind, without the
assignment and/or teacher's signature will not
be accepted. Students will be sent back to
class.
·
Teachers can send individual students, up to
five at a time to the library. For your
convenience, the librarian will email teachers
the Library Pass form to print out and use.
Check
Out Equipment
1.
All equipment are automated, and checked out by
computer.
3.
If the equipment doesn't work properly, please
return with a note stating the
problem
Check
Out/In Books, Magazines, Newspapers
& AV Materials
1.
You can now access the library
catalog
online
on the library
website
at
any time.
2.Student
should use ID badge to check out
books/magazines/newspapers. If a badge is not
available, ID # or lunch number, or student's
name can be used.
3.
Students can check out up to three items (books
and/or magazines/newspapers) at a time &
renewable up to two times
4.
To return books/magazines, use the book drop at
the circulation desk or give them to the library
personnel if the student wants to pay for late
fines.
5.
Only teachers can check out AV materials. The
procedure is the same as for checking out
books.
Overdues,
Fines & Lost
Books
1. Late are
five cents per day, per book
2. There
will be amnesty for fines periodically if the
books are returned at this time
3. Students
with overdue books/magazines can't check out
more books or use the computer until the records
are clear
4. Lost
books must be paid for the cost of the
book.
5. Overdue
notices will be distributed every month to
students and teachers. Please be responsible and
don't wait until the end of the year to take
care of this matter. Please help retrieve books
for our library!
Printing
·
Students are allowed to print 5 pages free for
each school work. Any additional pages are 10
cents each. To avoid printing out unneeded pages
of the resources, students must view the
PRINT PREVIEW and choose the pages to print
or HIGHLIGHT the part to be printed and change
the radio button from ALL to SELECTION
before clicking PRINT .
Color
printing is available for $1.00 per page
Lamination
·
Lamination service is offered in the library. No
personal materials allowed!
Library Orientation
1.
All freshman classes will have a library
orientation in August - September. Other classes
can be arranged upon request
2.
Library research and location skills &
resources will be presented and
practiced
3.
Students will check out a book at the end of the
orientation
4.
The librarian will present the use of all
resources available in the library and/or online
resources. Upon request, the librarian will show
them to individual teacher at his/her convenient
time.

in all grades may participate in this High
School Competition. Click

Please
encourage and recommend students to enter this
fun reading contest sponsored by HISD
& Barns & Noble. Book vendors
also give funds for rewards.
Sign
up with the librarian at the beginning of the
school.
Procedures
at the Competition
·
Questions or statements will be read by an
announcer.
·
The question will be read one time only.
·
Each question will be addressed to all teams at
the same time.
·
After the question, each school team will have
one minute (45 seconds in playoffs) to discuss
the question and write the answer on a small dry
erase board. Anyone on the team may write the
answer. The team captains will stand when time
is called, and display the answer when
requested. No one will be allowed to write after
time has been called or while standing. No one
will display the schools' answer until requested
to do so.
·
The book title must be complete, exact and
without misspelled words. A full title includes
all words up to a colon or semi-colon. Do not
erase the board until the end of the round in
case a board needs to be
rechecked.
·
Teams will not be penalized for not writing the
articles, a, an, or the at the beginning of a
title.
·
There are 15 rounds. Each round will consist of
five questions.
Awards
·
A trophy will be awarded to the winning schools
for first, second and third
place.
·
Certificates will be awarded to participants and
sponsors.
·
Scholarship prizes for the purchase of books
will be awarded to the team members of the
first, second and third place
teams.
End of Year Library
Closing
1.
The library will be closed for the last two
weeks of school for inventory
2.
All library materials must be returned at least
two weeks before the end of school for
inventory, and no more materials can be checked
out from this time
3.
Equipment can be returned during the last week
of school
